"Give Me Some Skin Friend!" -The Skin I Live In Review
Man! What can I REALLY say about this film? Well first off it's the most bizarre movie I've ever seen since that scene on Pulp Fiction where Bruce & Ving gets raped in that hill billy pawn shop! Yep, it's THAT weird left field sh** that slightly believable only cause we've heard weirder s**t on the news. Anyway without given too much of the plot away, Puss in boots...sorry Antonio Banderas plays a highly respected, well paid doctor who's lost everything and is trying to play God by getting it all back. Experimenting a new skin grafting technique that uber controversial in his field. But that's just the surface stuff. The movie covers EVERYTHING from rape (twice in the movie), murder, adoption, abandonment, kidnapping, voyeurism, egotism, over parenting, and THEN some! If you don't leave the theater with your jaw wide open then you walked into the WRONG film my friend! Check yo ticket stub! This is by far one of the strangest twist I've ever encountered watching a film...and I applaud! I'm giving this 4 1/2 M's outta 5!

"Rock'em, Sock'em Robots!" -Transformers 3 Review
Yeah I finally gave in and joined the rest of the WORLD it seems (based on the box office returns) and decided to see the latest edition to the iconic childhood film rendition of Transformers (3). The first one I saw as an in flight movie. The second I'm embarrassed to say I paid for. And this current one I gave into peer/media pressure and gave it the benefit of the doubt. But as I learned in life "No one benefits for doubt!" Now though I felt this was NOT terrible, however I did feel like I lost some brain cells on this third go round. But hey, what did I expect from a Micheal Bey summer movie? The King's Speech?!? The dialog will leave you scratching your head but the action scenes more than make up for the first grade play like script. AND the use of 3-D was some of the BEST I've seen so far from a movie using the technology yet. While sitting in the theater I couldn't help but to think of past Bey movies ESPECIALLY the Bad Boys films and thought if you just replaced Smith & Lawrence with the Transformers and threw in camera angles and lens flares from that Armageddon movie then BONG! You pretty much have you a Transformers movie! Am I right? Yeah right? This is 3 1/2 M's out of 5 tops!

"Chain, Chain, Chain! Chain Of Cool!" -Tarantino Unleases Unchained
GREAT news for Tarantino fans! Word around the campfire in Hollywood is that Q.T. has FINALLY turned in the last draft of his highly anticipated take on the spaghetti westerns of old. Me being a true fan of his work, I'm personally excited about hearing this feeling his style of direction is MORE than well suited for this genre of film. Even greater news is that Academy Award winning actor Christoph Waltz (the "Jew Hunter" in Inglourious Basterds) has been already cast as an "Jedi like" former bounty hunter character that trains a freed slave in the art of bounty hunting. It's best if I let someone who actually READ the script to better explain it: "The title character Django is a freed slave, who under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter (Waltz's role) becomes a badass bounty hunter himself and after assisting Waltz on taking down some bad guys for profit, is in turn assisted by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and liberating her from an evil plantation owner." And that doesn't even half begin to cover it!Wild right? Well we already know who the German bounty hunter is, but my vote for the "freed slave role" would be out of these two guys (left-right; Djimon Hounsou & Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and you GOTTA throw in seasoned actor Delroy Lindo SOMEWHERE in there on the cast man! Hold up,wait... I just had a brilliant idea! You GOTTA have a Lavar Burton cameo in there too! That would be EPIC! Word to Kunte Kinte! But please Quentin, NO slavery in 3D!

"Hanna Barbarian" -Hanna Movie Review
Okay I'm gonna switch it up a bit for this review and break it up into two groups "Rant & Rave" so I can give you the full movie going experience I had to deal with upon viewing this. So first here goes the "rant" part:Ladies/Gents, or just parents in general PLEASE explain to me why in the Hell would you bring a cranky ass 1-2 yr. old to a PG-13 movie?!? It's a dark room and it NOT bed time so I can understand their confusion. It's NOT a cartoon/computer animation film so what's holding their interest. AND you constantly telling them to "Shhh" is JUST as annoying (if not MORE) as the actual whining itself! How many "evil eye" look must everyone turn around and give you before you shut that baby's pacifier hole up? Sheesh Louise! THEN in my mutherf**kin' left ear I had some broad shout out "Oh no that bitch just didn't do that!" EVERY action sequence! I'm like WTBC (what the blood clot) mannnn! SOMEBODIES giving me some money back after this s**t! Wusa moment. I had to get off my chest. And now the "rave" part:
Yo this flick was an adrenaline rush from start to finish!
Extremely well paced for a "coming of age" action flick with a young female lead...unheard of! From the first scenes to establishing the "father daughter" relationship between leads Bana & Ronan, you understand the reasons why he's being so sadistic in his raising/training of Hanna. They live in the deep forest tundra, but it's an even colder world out there. What was different about this flick (besides an original plot) is that the protagonist is "captured" in the beginning of the film as opposed to the middle or end like most films. Hanna quickly understands exactly why "Poppa" nurtured her to "adapt or die" based on the fact that her surroundings would change drastically once she was out of his watchful eye. Cate Blanchett plays a pitch perfect villain looking to just cover up a past mistake, that proves to be a MUCH bigger task than had expected. Once Hanna breaks loose so does all Hell. The movie does a great job at keeping you in the fog about Hanna's origin. And the audience doesn't find out the truth about just who she is until she does. Dopeness! From the way it ends I smell a Pt.2 some where to come. Has a very indie style Tarantino/Guy Ritche feel to it, 4 out of 5 M's for this one!

"The Swan That Laid The Golden Globe Egg" -Black Swan Review
Have you seen this movie YET? Trust me if you have then you'd be talking about it too! Be it Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler, WHATEVA! This is the type of cinema experience that I'm glad to plop down money for and STILL get the DVD! YES, it was just that good. Not to give away too too much, but the story/plot follows "Nina" (Natalie Portman) as a "dancer in waiting" in a ballet troupe that's eager for "the come up" in the wake of the shows aging star exiting the production early, due to a forced retirement. Portman does some of her best acting yet (since her debut turn in "the Professional") as a insecure, sheltered young dancer living with an overbearing mother. That turns to purging and paranoia to cope with the pressures of maintaining the image of a twin role in a production of "Swan Lake". Fighting off sexual advances from the head stage director, her understudy, and accusations of sleeping to get the job from the former lead and EVERYONE else, her mind spirals down a rabbit hole of delusions and the film's director takes us (the audience) right down with her! Brilliantly! Usually I'm always sitting in the dark waiting to see if the ending I predicted was right. Not THIS time, with this film, I was LITERALLY in the dark! I wasn't sure WHAT was going on! And I mean that in a GOOD way! Every 5 minutes I was like WTH, WTF, SMH, and even LOL. seriously other than "Let Me In" this was my surprise hit of the year film wise for me. Well written, well acted, and well directed. Best sexual thriller since ummm...well since "Eyes Wide Shut" I will say. "Swan" has feathers but it's NO light-weight! Fly to see this film! I give it 5 out of 5 M's! Here are some DOPE poster variations that I came across below:

'Who Spiked The (Sucker) Punch?"
It's not TOO much on the Spring movie calendar that I'm looking forward to to be honest but this film by director Zack Snyder (of 300 & Watchman fame) titled "Sucker Punch" DID catch my attention. That's till I heard word around the water cooler that it was an "action musical" and I thought "Ummm maybe not!" But let me not hate on this too soon. Here's clips from the film that got me excited.

"Vamp Of Approval" -"Let Me In" Review
I LOVE IT when I walk into a movie with no expectations and walk away highly impressed! And this movie did it for me. Now I'm very bougie about my movie selections, and even bougier about Vampire genre movie so I was like, THIS ONE better knock my motherf**kin' socks off! Having to live up to my "long teeth" favorites "Interview W/A Vampire" & long time classic "Lost Boys" I had high hopes that "Let Me In" had some "bite" to it. But don't walk in thinking this is going to be all "guts & gory" and s**t. Fangs a blazing! Nah bro, it's more in the vain of a twisted love story and seduction of a different kind, mixed w/ "Romeo & Juliet." They even show the aforementioned book in the movie. Now we all know the vampire lore is all Hollywood make-believe (I hope) right? However the film works well at making you feel as if Vamps did exist, then this is a slight glimpse of how they would have to interact in today's modern world (well in the movie it's the 80's). The movie's focal points are the two tween actor that LOOK like they would be into that ol' "Twlight" stuff, but ACT way beyond their age. The chick, sorry, little girl from "Kick-Ass" (another unexpected film) Chloe' What'sherface is the talked about star in this one but my money's on the main character getting an Oscar next year. YES I said Oscar! Trust me this film WILL be up for at LEAST one if not MORE! I'm thinking Best Cinematography, Best Lighting Effects, Best Set Design, and maybe something in the acting category even. It definitely has an "Indie/Artsy" film type of feel to it. More story strength then effects. Mainly ALL of the carnage is at a distance or off screen at times. EVEN the adults actors aren't given close ups often...sorta like those "Charlie Brown" cartoons. LOL ;) I originally was setting out to see that "Facebook movie" but this was a GREAT plan V! I give 4 1/2 out of 5 M's for this. I wanna sink my teeth into more of the back story!

"On To The Ex One!" -Scott Pilgrim v.s. the World Review
Part musical, part comedy, part live action video game, all LOVE (story). Scott Pilgrim packs a PUNCH (pun intended). I'll be the first to admit being a former comic book collector/reader, I've NEVER read or even HEARD of Scott Pilgrim before this movie hit theaters. But once I saw the trailer, heard Edgar Wright was attached to direct (of "Shaun of the Dead", one of my favorite films) and "Super Bad" Michael Cera (reigning king of awkwardness) my ticket was brought! Here's the gist of the movie. Scott who's currently dating a "Asian fetish" school girl, Catholic outfit and all, gets distracted in a dream by a mysterious woman who he finds out REALLY exists and becomes obsessed w/ meeting her. After being warned by EVERYONE to stay clear of her, they start a quick courtship unannounced to his current fling "Knives Chu." By the way he's in a rocking indie band that's destined to STAY indie called "the Sex Bob Omb" (which is really rock artist Beck FYI) After a snowed in night of "spooning" with his new love interest "Ramona Flowers", Scott receives an e-mail from one of her 7 ex's (yes ladies 7 former suitors) challenging him to a duel to defend his honor...which he ignores till her first ex shows up at his band's gig. The rest you MAY have to be high to begin to accept as the story line gets more bizarre as the movie get under way. Not that I'm condoning drug use or anything (lol). But it gets surreal from that point on to say the least. All in all this was one of the most original romance comedies I've EVER seen with all it's movie genre bending and quick witty story telling. Better yet take Tarantino and mix it with the on screen computer graphic film style of "ZombieLand", with a dash of any Kung Fu/Matrix movie and BOOM! You have on Scott Pilgrim film folks. I promise you you won't leave the theater without say to yourself or thinking out loud "WTF!?!" I'm giving it 4 out 5 M'sThursday, April 1, 2010
"Get Into The Party Life" -What's REALLY Kraken This Weekend!
Well GOT DAMN! It's seems as SOON as the weather get's right it seems things do it start poppin' up! This weekend is going to be a HUGE one! 70 plus weather, sunny skies, loose clothes...you get the point. Well anyways here's a rundown of what's poppin' & lockin' for the next few days. Grab a pen real quick.
Fri. April 2nd
Friday (or Thurs. @ midnight) the much hyped about remake of Clash of the Titans (in 3-D) is being released. I was a cult fan of the original film, even as cheesy as it was. Favorite line of course is "Release the Kraken!" (that's what she said) Check your local theaters for times and locations.
If hopefully you've pre-ordered then Friday you SHOULD now (if Apple got it right) be the proud owner of a brand spanking new iPad! And I'm SO jealous of you...till the second gen one is dropped (along with the price) like three weeks later! Lol!
Then there's the NY Inter
national Annual Auto show that comes to town EVERY Easter weekend to the Jacob Javits Center. Which I USED to enjoy going to till the prices got too high, and too crowded, and I'm NOT looking to buy ANYWAY sooo...Ummm that's that!
Sat. April 3rd, BOOM! Ya got the 1st Saturday's event that Target throws at the Brooklyn Museum EVERY month in the museum's Rotunda. Not too sure what the theme is this month, but it's a cool hang out people watching vibe anyways. Plus s#*t...It's FREE!
Target's 1st Saturday
5-11pm
FREE
Eastern Parkway near Washington Ave.
Then we're EVERYBODY headed to Saturday night? If you don't know then admit yourself to the nearest hospital, cause you're either deaf dumb or blind...or ALL three maybe. "the Fashion 500" is where it's at! Click to your right to figure things out for yourself dude!

"Alice In Wonder Bland!" -This Cheshire Cat Has NOTHING To Smile About! Alice Review
So I'm hearing that this was the number one movie at the box office this weekend. Which comes as NO surprise to me due to all the hype around it (Depp, 3-D, Burton, the story of Wonderland, yada yada yada) But to make a long review short...I should of supported "Brooklyn's Finest" like the proud "Brooklynista" I am. Because I found the movie to be so wack and bland, I have NO problem spoiling the plot for you. So if you STILL planning on seeing it, don't read ahead. Here's the deal, an older teen Alice is attending her "surprise" engagement party when anxiety hits and sees a vision of the White Rabbit hopping around leading her to that abyss hole she fell into years ago. Why no one uprooted this tree or sealed the hole yet years later, is a mystery to me! Anyway the next scenes we see are of her falling (in 3-D) and shrinking and growing back and forth for damn near 20 mins are so. Twiddle Dumb & Dumber show up and give her a quick tour of west side Wonderland before the Queen of Heart's goons show up and break up their lil' "reunion tea party." Damn, I'm getting bored just writing this, so I'll speed it. The gist is, Alice has been predestined to return to Wonderland as it's savior and return the crown and rule back to the White man...sorry White Queen and make all right with the world again. The End! But not before an 1hr. and a half of talking dogs, frogs, & dragons. Fish as servants, hedgehogs for golf balls, rabbits with A.D.D., a hat making tranny Irish accented Johnny Depp, plus a bong pot smoking caterpillar to boot. I should've gone to see this high, like the rest of the audience around me was...And I don't even smoke!

"Lords Of The Underground" -Hobo of the Rings
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but the other day on the subway I swore I was sitting across from Gandalf the White of "Lord Of The Rings" fame. I'm into my movies man, so I "geeked" out when I caught a sighting of him horse-less on the "iron horse". He must be going through tough times in this recession too. It's good to see that he didn't go all "Hollywood" on us right?

"Clawing Your Way To The (Box-Office) Top!" -X-Men Origins: Wolverine Review
Okay after numerous posting of damn near ALL the coming trailers for this movie, it would only make sense that I go see it, & write a review on the finished film right? Well this Mon. I did the more sensible thing and avoided the weekend rush crowd, and took in a viewing at MY leisure, dead in the afternoon. Less folks, and way shorter lines that way. But enough about that, it's on to my thoughts about the movie. And to be quite frank...I wasn't REALLY impressed by it (hold your boos for later). It was good how they set up his time spanning history in a quick montage for the opening credits but then when things slowed down a bit, my heart rate did too. I feel more time should've been spent on building the characters bond in his elite fighting unit, so you understood way they felt betrayed when he bounced. And actually show him in action as to way he's such a bad ass other than them damn claws! I never once felt sad (no homo) for any of the guys Victor ("Sabre Tooth") started hunting down and killing off, not one. And I'm sorry, with so much domestic violence going 'round, I don't know one chick that would feel totally comfortable sleeping next to some dude that wakes up screaming and clawing $#it! Ladies, am I wrong? I get a nudge if I just snore a lil' too loud, let alone cut someones arm up (lol). I did cut someone once with my uncut toenails, and boy did I hear about it the next day! When there wasn't any on screen action, the dialogue was not even comic book worthy. I wasn't expecting "Hamlet" , but not stuff that could fit in a thought bubble. All in all the the movie was one big "male cat-fight" between two brothers at the end of the day. As to why Logan ("Wolverine") would be MORE upset at his bro killing African villagers, than when he killed men in his platoon is still lost to me. I guess killing more innocent black folks is still over the line huh? Finally, I'm just now noticing two things missing too. One, there was a cameo scene of a young "Storm" in the trailer, you guys tricked me! And two, Will.I.am is in the film for more mins than half of these folks in this poster! I guess he was in character when they shot this and he "disappeared" huh? I'm done, see you in the aisles.

"Hanging On By A Thread(s)" -Don('t) Give Up Yet
After being deeply depressed about the whole "Traitor" poster controversy Don Cheadle is on yet ANOTHER poster looking as if his ready to "cash in his chips", and end it all with his tie as the means for suicide! Seems like just as I did, folks actually thought the movie ad was anything but that. And you KNOW how actors feel about bad press...yeah, just spell my name right. On a lighter note it's kinda good to see a black man's face posted up all over the hood and it not be a WANTED poster. Right? You are a GIANT indeed Don. Player that is, I see your movements. And yes I STILL want you to play lead role in my life story. It's an indie film w/ alotta heart.

"I Come In Peace" -Madea A Trekkie?
Er???Yes you read it correctly.
ya boy Tyler Perry,
famously known
(some say infamously)
as his high-strung family patriarch alter-ego "Madea"
has currently been casted to join the
Star Trek USS. Enterprise crew!
Wild right? Honestly speaking, the brother CAN act, outside of the over-the-top cross gender Mom he portrays on screen. So I'm not too worried about him pulling it off. Not to say I ever was worried to begin with, being that, by no means am I a Tyler Perry OR Star Trek fan
(I'm more the Star Wars type ...oops,sorry temporary geek moment) However I was cheering the fact that they were diversifying the cast with more color . "Homeboys In Space" for the '08! I know that Pharrell is pissed! Maybe he'll do the soundtrack...maybe?

"Heroes Aren't Just Sandwiches" - The Dark Knight & Iron Man Previews
Every once in a while I like to "Get my Geek on" and read info about upcoming comic based movies that I have some childhood connection to. At one time I was an avid comic book collector, and to this day I still have'em stacked away neatly in some boxes...in plastic. But no 40 year old virgin am I. I am legend (just ask somebody). Here's some tidbits I got wind off about Marvel and D.C.'s dueling Superhero flicks hitting the theaters (and yo pockets) soon. The first image is a scene from a straight to Blu-Ray DVD (July 8th) Japanimation / Anime film (Batman:Gotham Knight) bridging the gap between the 1st Bale Batman (Batman Begins) and the newest one (Dark Knight) coming out. The second is the latest trailer promoting the highly buzzed Iron Man movie. Cue the lights, popcorn and action!
