Close to completing their FOURTH feature, Sunshowah Films needs you to help them reach their goal of 20.000 (3 days left) by donating thru their Kickstarter campaign. Here's the details of why? and where? you can begin...

"...The Harder They Fall"
Nearly twelve years after the death of his mother, and with an ever growing distance between him and his father, 12-year-old Jabari is on the road to nowhere – and fast. After getting kicked out of school and putting his life in danger, Jabari's father, Wayne, decides that the only option is to send his son to stay with his grandparents in Settlement, Jamaica, with the hope that the older couple will have better luck reaching the boy. Will Jabari bridge the gap between his anger over a childhood lost and embrace the young manhood that awaits him, or will his future be lost forever? Follow Sunshowah Films (Daoud Abeid & Dahkil Hausif) and Streetwise Pictures (Kim Jackson) as they travel from the streets of Brooklyn to the Blue Mountains of Jamaica in a coming of age tale.

Yo did you ever get a chance to peep this flick Black Dynamite? I'm not into comedies (I usually see the joke coming) but something about it being a parody of those '70 flicks peaked my interest. And I must say it ROCKED man! Funny how just the other day @pleasedontstare, @djtraumanyc, @myounglao, and myself (@theMreporter) were all going back and forth on Twitter, with memorable lines from this joint, and now I'm hearing that they're making this into CARTOON!!! I KNOW this definitely is NOT coming on early Saturday mornings! LMAO! I beg of you, go rent...f**k that, go BUY the DVD it's truly an underground classic!

"Chain, Chain, Chain! Chain Of Cool!" -Tarantino Unleases Unchained

GREAT news for Tarantino fans! Word around the campfire in Hollywood is that Q.T. has FINALLY turned in the last draft of his highly anticipated take on the spaghetti westerns of old. Me being a true fan of his work, I'm personally excited about hearing this feeling his style of direction is MORE than well suited for this genre of film. Even greater news is that Academy Award winning actor Christoph Waltz (the "Jew Hunter" in Inglourious Basterds) has been already cast as an "Jedi like" former bounty hunter character that trains a freed slave in the art of bounty hunting. It's best if I let someone who actually READ the script to better explain it: "The title character Django is a freed slave, who under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter (Waltz's role) becomes a badass bounty hunter himself and after assisting Waltz on taking down some bad guys for profit, is in turn assisted by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and liberating her from an evil plantation owner." And that doesn't even half begin to cover it!

Wild right? Well we already know who the German bounty hunter is, but my vote for the "freed slave role" would be out of these two guys (left-right; Djimon Hounsou & Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and you GOTTA throw in seasoned actor Delroy Lindo SOMEWHERE in there on the cast man! Hold up,wait... I just had a brilliant idea! You GOTTA have a Lavar Burton cameo in there too! That would be EPIC! Word to Kunte Kinte! But please Quentin, NO slavery in 3D!

"Bed-Stuy Chop Shop" -We Cut Heads

I absolutely HATE going to the barber shop! Now it's not like I don't like getting my hair cut, it's REALLY the wait that I'm hating on. ESPECIALLY when your barber is the most popular in the shop and you have to freakin' RSVP ahead to be place on a list to get a cut. THEN when you finally get in the chair that when everybody and yo momma wants to call you! Excuse me I'm getting off track here. I was sayin' all this to say that this time I decided to bring my Canon (T2I) along and be creative while I endure the long wait process. Beside I'm working on an love ole to Brooklyn and I thought "I would be nice to get some images of a barber shop that has that Brooklyn essence." So voila' two birds, one stone. DONE! Here's the best of what I was able to capture while their skillful hands weren't moving. I got into it so much I almost forget I was there FOR a cut. LOL!

This is for some damn MOVIE? My bad dog, I got it ALL wrong homey. Glad to see you still working. Support Black actors. (*BTW, Don Cheadle has the leading role in a movie loosely based on me, as a frustrated Blogger on the come up, living in Bed-Stuy.)

"Say It Loud, I'm Black & I'm Proud!" -CNN "the New Authority On Blackness"

Ummm, has ANYONE been following this? From the looks of things someone over at CNN ( which now stands for this "Country's New Negro") has hired the laid off production staff from BET, to create this propaganda filled documentary about the state of Black affairs in Amerikkka. If what they're claiming is true, then kill me now! Cause it's sounds hopeless as motherf^@ker (lol). Seems like perfect timing to air this, on an election year where the leading Democratic candidate happens to be...You guessed it...Black! If you haven't heard by now, his name is Senator Barack Obama, and he's wants to become your next President, by beating "around the Bush." Peeps these clip out, but PLEASE (warning) have an empty bucket nearby on hand as you watch.

P.S.
Stay tuned to BET for the response/diss documentary "White In America."

"Some Notorious Acting to Do" -B.I.G. Gets Played

So there you have it my friends. You are now look the future of rap(ping actors that is). Jamal "Gravy" Woolard has officially received his SAG card the other day, when it was announced that he will be playing the lead role in the upcoming biographical film based on the late rapper the Notorious B.I.G. "Gravy"s only other scripted role to date, was the incidence at HOT97 radio station, were he was at the receiving end of a bullet...in the rapper's crapper ("Who shot ya?"). So this will be his first ON-SCREEN appearance, that we know of. This is all well and fine, but what I'm really waiting to hear is, who's taking on the role of Faith (I vote Lauren London) or even Lil' Kim for that matter? Either way "the Bootleg man" got my money EARLY on this one! Umm...I wonder if he got "Shottas 2" maybe?
Give me both and they BETTER be clear!

"Coming to America" -the Real Story

I'm not sure if you've had a chance to tune into channel 13's
airing of this biographical documentary
on the life of a real African Prince whom governed a large section of Africa
(more spacious than the 13 colonies).
It tells the griping story of how he had gotten captured and became enslaved in America (Mississippi) for over 40 yrs. Narrated by Mos-Def, the doc re-enacts his then famous struggle to become a free man and return to his homeland. Descendants of this man are even reunited by the story's end, giving viewers a more in depth perspective how his life expanded on two different continents. Hopefully you'll get an opportunity to watch this when 13 airs it again...which you know they will.
Happy Black History Month.

"And the Winner Is..."-the Great Debaters review

Yes I know, I'm late on this. Why didn't I see this sooner? It's just for me, if I don't get around to seeing a movie within the 1st two weeks of release I figure I'll purchase it once the DVD is released.
But after hearing so much positive testimony from so many different people (my mom included), I began to feel like it was a moral disservice if I didn't see this film. (which by the way is). It's that good. I couldn't help but think, what better way to spend Dr. King's B-day/
Holiday
than by viewing an inspirational film that deals with racial indifferences. It was refreshing to see a Black film make it to the screen with two strong male leads, and a great supporting cast of young fresh faced actors that wasn't based on a dance off contest. Or 24hrs. around somebody's hood (sorry Cube).
Debaters worked for me on a lot of levels. To begin with, each frame could have easily been made into a still and hung in a Downtown gallery. Secondly, I wouldn't be surprised if the wardrobe became the inspiration for some designer next season (hint:Bow ties are in). Then lastly none of the typically stereotypes were placed in a film based on Southern blacks. Such as the overplayed drawl, and drastically
poor trappings, we're so use to seeing in these types of period pieces. All except for the "wayward bad-boy" type character the Great Debaters escapes those pitfalls that plague other films. The Oscars are being announced today, I would be shocked if this film's name didn't show up in ANY of the categories. Don't debate seeing this film.
