I always look forward to hearing what she has to offer to the musically playing field when she decides to release new music. Hopes up high, fingers crossed. Remember a WHILE back sometime last year I tried to hip you to this "indie soul-ish" band I was feeling from Sweden w/ the cute lead singer with the "Badu-ish" voice? Well now is your chance for you (& I of course) to catch them playing live in NYC this weekend. It not the first time though. They've performed at the same venue a few months back but I missed them that time around. However I DID see them at Summer Stage recently, but the sound and crowd SUCKED! Folks were more into Q-Tip & Chester French that go round. Well any case they'll be headlining this one so start standing in line NOW! Picture eating a well cooked brunch by a top star chef, while being entertained by a DJ spinning the latest Saadiq, Badu, Legend, etc. CD, or even an ol' fav like Lauren's first. Maybe even a live trio serenading you w/ cover tunes by Chaka or Stevie. Even watch a live painter complete a single work of art, before you even finish your 3rd Mimosa!?! "AmErykah...Concert Of the Free" -Tonight Doin' It In (the Wingate) Park

Case there was a slight chance you DIDN'T know, Badu will be doing BK at the Martin Luther King Jr. free concert series in Wingate Park this evening. Be advised, there will be ALOT of "incent" burning going on at this particular event, so don't wear your good s#@t out there if you don't like the smell of "incent" (wink wink). And plus, get this, there's to be NO cameras allowed in the park...none. Huh? I guess this is to keep folks from Youtubin' the poor treatment of our folks by the cops handling crowd control. But that's just a theory. Get there EARLY, cause the line goes "On & On"...Get it? On & on? Erykah? First song? Aww forget it.

"God Bless AmErykah"-Erykah and the Roots Crew Review

Wow! Did you get a chance to catch the "Vortex" that blew into Radio City! My late ass only caught the tail end of the Roots act, not realizing that the show started 8 sharp (!), which all shows should. But a 30 min. Roots set? Blasphemy! Kool G Rap stepped on stage and ripped his verse for "Men at Work", leaving the crowd thirsty. Then comes the "Wait" (i.e. a 45 min intermission) for Badu to do Badu. The show in a nutshell was part (drum) history lesson, part pilates class, part dance interpretation, and part stand-up, and all together...ummm weird. Sorta like a giant listening party in a way. Highlights were her sense of humor, plus songs "Solider" and "Other Side of the Game", and a marriage proposal..YES, some "random" couple got engaged on stage! My personal downsides to the show were, NO hype intro or outro, plus no "Honey" (?) or "Love of my Life"(?). I wasn't even sure the show had really ended. No lie. Till ushers started sweeping shit up (lol). Plus I never realized she had such a huge black gay male following, till I saw YOU there. Don't look around...Yeah I talking to you 'Tervon." Switching down the aisle w/ that glowing Hpnotiq stick in yo mouth. Damn shame! It was like a "coming out" party at one point lol! So many "flames", it had me looking for the "fire" exits... indeed. Hahahaha! My picture game sucked (NO homo) that night, so I hope you like pretty lights. Enjoy, and "stay woke!"

"Flashing Lights" -Paparazzi Pics (Pt.36)

It's official...I'm not feeling Madison Square Garden man! The long lines, the outdated seating, the poor sound system...Shall I could go on? But as it now stands, Jay and Mary's "Heart of the City" tour was booked for that venue, so I had no choice. Yeah I could've went to Jersey but I don't consider that a choice (lol). Anyway, due to the long track history of crossover hits by both well respected artist , you can guess how diversed the crowd was. It still bugs me out to see other races, young and old, mouthing the words to songs you're familiar with. As the show's countdown meter began and the lights went down, the blunts came out and folks sparked up. It was so ironic to me that the very SAME red sweater (*see Ebully posting) that I complained about arriving to my house smelling of smoke, got a good weed steaming that night. But aside for that and the ocassional "Mary's my mother effing girllll!" the show went well...not great but not bad by any means. The only downfall of the night was when the 18 ft. screen projected Bush's face for 5 mins. Boo's at a Jay-Z show? Yeah that would do it. Then when he flash Obama's face, you would have swore the man himself walked out on stage. Overall I'm happy to see those two still making a difference in music and also live. Now I can't wait for the Badu and Roots joint TONIGHT! Sorry bout the crappy pics but, hey until Canon endorses me and I get a G9 or whatever, these will have to do pal.

"On Another Note"- Little Dragon

There's is absolutely NOTHING more thrilling to me other than discovering a new love than discovering new music! Mentally and physically, my body is tune like a short wave antenna to hone in on GOOD music. It's like fallin' in love and your heart starts to race, simply from the sound of that persons voice. The reason I say this is cause, last Sunday, after the Brooklyn Flea, a friend of mine was playing a CD she "mixed" in the car on our way to SEA. One tune had struck me HARD, so of course as any good blogger would do, I did the research. Janelle Monae...DOPE, heaVy...LOVE you guys! But Little Dragon is that other NEW ish! Hailing from all places, Sweden (?) With a lead singer who's of all things, Japanese and White (!), their "Soul" is without question Black. As George Lucas made a point of showing us that the "Force" is not monopolized by humans only, "Soul" is not by one race, or country for that matter. Ear check for "No Love", "Wink", "Constant Surprises", and the deep boding "Twice", definitely iPod worthy. I have personal taken on the task of working as a future stylist and American PR rep for this group, they may not be aware of it yet (lol). Can't wait for Erykah's next one, or Amy's pushed back release? Then add a "Little Dragon" to yo life.

"It Was All A Dream"-Outkast Private Listening Party!

Late last night after finishing off a Philly Cheese Stake w/ extra poppin' toppings, and a grape soda (no Coke) to wash it down, I get a strange phone call. I can't make out the persons voice but they're inviting me out to some studio in Manhattan, where Outkast is mixing down tracks for their lastest musical offering, and they need me...your boy...the Minority Report's opinion. So I stumble in the dark to get dressed and find a pen to write down the address, but was told don't worry a car would be sent for me...DOPE! When the car service arrives, Badu (?) is already in the car talking as if I'm her BFF, how she reads the blog EVERYDAY, and how she wrote a song titled the same name as the blog you're now reading. We make one pit stop to get Cheez Doodles and some (extreme) sour patch candy, when out the blue, Bilal jumps in to catch a ride with us (ummm maybe i was catching one with them lol!) We get to the studio in NYC record time, like the streets were empty or something. Once inside, freaking everybody's there! Sleepy Brown, Janelle Monae',Cee-Lo, ?uestlove, D'Angelo(!), Dave Chapelle, Raphael Saadiq, and Obama...yes that Obama! With some security (cause you know how these Hip-Hop affairs can get) passing out Coronas dude! Freaking Coronas! I excuse myself to run throw water on my face, in the restroom, and curse myself for forgetting my trusted camera. Yet some photog guy, in the bathroom says, he'll just e-mail me his professional shots (NO Homo). SWEET Mary, Joseph & Jesus! How and why is this happening to me? I thank him sincerely, and rush back to hear the tracks they're cueing up to play. That's when out the blue, dressed in an apron that reads "Kiss the Cook...Ass!" comes walking in, is my Moms!!! With a pot of steaming hot grits in her hand, mad I'm out late! I lose it, and just jump up out of my deep sleep. I laugh and shake me head like, "DAMN that was nutso!" I GOTTA stop munching before I go to bed man?!?

but it's for the Afro-centric, conscience crowd (lol). Crazy thing is,
it falls on the exact SAME weeks as their tour too! I know that week
my pockets gon' be TIGHT. Wait a sec., my pockets are EVERY week,
so forget I even said that. Seriously though, that's a fabulous (yes I used the word) combo show right there. As i mentioned in my very first posting on music predictions, this is a GREAT year for music lovers. Oh by the way, tickets for Badu & the Roots show went on sale TODAY so hopefully you're not reading this too late.

if you consider yourself fans of Badu, you'll be glad to know that there'll be more than enough of her to go 'round come Summer...
Maybe even earlier than that. Not only is she planning to release an unrelated album of '70's sounding material under the title "Lowdown Loretta Brown" but part two of "New Amerykah" should be out by Fall w/ a lifestyle 'zine (Freaq) accompanying the CD and a still in the works tour (in May) of all this new material. BTW her latest CD is charted at number two on Billboard if you haven't checked. Which would make it one of the rarest times 2 African-American Women (Janet is no.#1) held the top two spots at the same time on Billboard...Wow is right! I wonder if her mag is looking for writers? Call me.

OK! I don't know who's behind it but some one's Gnarls Barkley hatin' on me...seriously! Every posting I've done on them so far mysteriously vanishes, this time it's the video (btw, Erykah's video have been "access denied" too, but I got that back on track). What? "Deja Badu"-New AmErykah Review

Wow! I'm just realizing that this is the very first album review that I've done since the conception of the M Report has been on-line...
sad face ;( Has the state of music been that bad?
When I think of artist today trying to keep the art form alive, It reminds me of the plot for "Revenge of the Sith" (lol) where the "evil dark side" of music is killing off the last of an almost abandon skill
(like the Jedi) who's escaped death (by label, sales, etc.) are barely heard from or seen. However there is a "New Hope."
If D'Angelo is the "Yoda of Neo-Soul", then Erykah is surely "Leia". "New AmErykah" sounds less organic in it's instrumentation then her previous releases, but my no means is it less courageous in it's attempts to take all the built up ear wax you have, and turn it into one of those calming candles she known to burn on stage. Heavily on rotation is the hypnotic, Wu-Tang-ish song "the Healer / Hip Hop"
which will be the new mix tape circuits "must freestyle over" beat.
Then following that would be, the jazzy blues cut "Me". Which has personal revelations that artist tend to stay away from in their lyrics ,
but once again Badu is willing to "Take one for the team". "Solider"
is the next candidate for single release being that it's the 2nd most "commercial"(for lack of a better term...sorry) it's beat lends itself enough breathing space for a future rapped over remix by MC
"Who's the hottest at the moment" (please no Lil' Wayne).
The sometimes hard to follow, yet funkilious production of
Sa-Ra comes across as refreshing under Erykah direction on
"Master Teacher" helps me "stay woke" while I await a connecting train on my morning commute. It's chopped up, bouncy rhythm tries to educate through repetition then SWITCH...the style changes but the message remains the same. In the words of Laurence Fishburne (Spike Lee's film) School Daze "Wake UP!" Your new conscience has been downloaded. I hope America gets AmErykah. Badu I salute thee.

"Amerykah Needs Discipline"-New Music from Erykah Badu & Janet Jackson

Janet had hit it right on the nose when she sung "You don't know what you got till it's gone."
It's so true, especially when you're missing good music in your life. But luckily there's another saying I stand by, "Good things come in pairs." Today is proof of that in the record stores, because both ladies are finally releasing work, that I hope will cure our much needed fix. To be quite honest with you, I'm not a huge Janet (Ms. Jackson if you're nasty) fan. But if it's good it's good. However I did hear some joints off Badu's piece, that I'm looking forward to giving a deeper listening to. Anyways, if you're playing hooky from work to catch Janet in Times Square hit me up and give me "feedback."
