"Black Fashion Month Is The New Black!" -I Am (Fashion) Legend Starts Tomorrow

Did you know that April has been elected as Black Fashion Month? No? That's probably cause it DOESN'T EXIST YET! And why not, is a mystery to us, being that people of color have contributed SO MUCH to the industry and advancement of FASHION & style in general! So to be proactive we are (the Block Association & a collective of good friends) are starting a grassroots campaign to get the month of April recognized as BLACK FASHION MONTH. So we're asking all stylists, make-up artist, models of color, black fashion bloggers, designers, boutique owners, etc. to donate time to come be interviewed on camera for our PSA helping to launch the movement together. Think of it as a "visual chain letter." If interested PLEASE reach out and contact us asap @theBlockRsvp@gmail.com w/full name, job position in the fashion industry, and years experience.
Fashionably yours,
the Block Association

"Little Dragon Meets Small Wonder" -PS22 Gets A Visit And I'm Jealous

If I VERY come back in another life, and by chance my future parents just happen to live in Staten Island. I hope that they live in the district that P.S.22 is in! Yeah I know that's a lot to wish for right? But man, these kids live better than some folks I know! Besides the many celebrity visits, all and the Oprah shout outs and the Oscar performance, I think I'm most jealous of their Little Dragon collabo (viewable below)! Having learned the lyrics in just days, the kids pull it off like pros! I also added a joint off of Little Dragon's upcoming album too.

"Punch Suckered Me!" -Sucker Punch Review

Let me first start off with a formal apology. If I've influenced you in ANY way based on my many post on the blog about this movie I am TRULY sorry! I myself was planning to go see this on the day of it's release so I could have a fresh review for you come Monday morning. But something told me "Pause...don't get suckered into the hype!" But when good friend (Carlito) put me onto the Optimum On-line FREE Tuesday movie jump-off, I said "Hey, I have NOTHING to lose here! It's FREE right?!?" I was wrong. I lost time, respect and a lil' hope for this director Zack guy. Sure the movie is two hours of visual eye porn, sure Zack has mastered the green screen technology to near perfection. Sure he KNOWS how to market the s**t out of a movie. But when it comes to character development and original storytelling...SMMFH! Damn, I was hoping I was wrong but this movie was basically the Matrix, meets La Cage Aux Folles, meets Lord of the Rings, meets Japanimation, meets Kill Bill (sorry if I've offended anyone connected w/ any of those films). It was like watching a game of Russian roulette knowing a bullet was in EVERY chamber! POW! I would have loved him to just pick ONE genre and kill it! But the story, the acting, and the time consistency was like the popcorn I threw up...all over the place! LOL. Thank God, Allah, Jehovah, Odin, Zeus, and whomever you happen to pray to that Christopher Nolan is writing the Superman story FOR Zack to direct. At the end, I even wanted my money back for money I had spent on the popcorn combo! YES, it was THAT bad folks. If someone suggests to you "Hey why didn't we catch that Sucker Punch movie?" Just turn the other cheek! This gets 2 out of 5 M's

"Flashing Lights" -Paparazzi Pics (Pt.248)

Is it Summer yet? Well it damn near felt that way last Friday inside of Sanders Studio! That's where the Block Association along w/ I See promotions kicked off the first collabo of Ali Shaheed Muhummad (Tribe Called Quest) & Rich Medina, along w/ the Block Association's Dj Trauma & the Ahficionados, for the coming Ft. Greene Festival this year (June). I got there late (well negro time) but that was only due to the fact that we also had "the Class Reunion" @ Luke's Place (our weekly dinner party, 277 Cumberland) going on at the same time. But from the looks of it when I showed up, it looked as if ALL of Brooklyn was already there holding me DOWN! It HAD to be at least 4-500 strong in there sweating out their naturals & weaves! And of all racial background and neighborhoods too. GREAT look indeed. THANK YOU on behave of the Block Association and all parties involved, and we hope to see you at the events to come and our Black Fashion Month annual event "Fashion 500" (Sat. April 23rd). Here's some "BK love" pics I managed to take in between dancing.

"Workin' Hard On The Block!" -Future Planning During the Present

Now WHO says you have to be in a kitchen to be cooking? Spring is HERE (well not weather wise) and Summer is quickly approaching so the Block Association is gearing up to bring you yet another fun filled, memorable year of quality events and social gathering. Starting with our grassroots movement and annual event for Black Fashion Month the "Fashion 500!" This year we're taking the campaign on-line with a viral film/PSA to bring "fashion light to those still dressing in the dark." Fashion 500 is happening at (No.1 Front St.) Sat. April 23rd so mark your calendars. We're looking to blow out last years attendance records. Then in May (the 8th Mother's Day) we hope to continue our "Rock & Bowl" series w/ Artful Dodger involved. So now you can sleep easier we GOT you on the event tip! Don't it LOOK like we're hard at work? For now enjoy Friday's w/ us at "the Class Reunion" @ Luke's Place till then.

"Flashing Lights" -Paparazzi Pics (Pt.247)

"The great Frank White is here to excite!" And excite they did! Last Wednesday the short-lived long loved cultural cafe' Frank White held a reunion slash honor awards gathering (held at Littlefield) that was one not to be missed. Friends, family, and fans all came together to toast the accomplishments of one another achieved in the space in such a short time. the night was truly...EPIC! It was great to see all those familiar faces together in one spot and on top of that walk home with the "crown" (award). But on Wed. the celebrating didn't end. The SAME gang got together AGAIN in a more intimate setting for the relaunching of "the Class Reunion" dinner party event now held at Luke's Place (formerly En) for the fashionable social set in Bklyn and beyond. Here's the picture EVERY ONE'S been asking so patiently (yeah right) about. Enjoy, and hope to see you at Luke's later on tonight or even the Ft. Greene Fest kick-off party.
