Well over a year following "the Kid" (Ernie Gaines) let me tell you how GOOD it felt to finally hear that the project had found a home under the Motown label, and "Team Ernie" gave me the honor of throwing them the first of many parties to celebrate their success. The night started of later than usual due to folks going home to get fresh & wanting to walk in when DJ Goldfinger touched the set, which is honest. Once 8pm stuck a rush of folks rammed Aspen to see (and hear) what all this "Ernie Gaines buzz" was about! Once again I'm disappointed that you didn't show up (if you didn't) It was one of the best looking crowds we had so far and we're only THREE weeks deep! Once Goldie played some stuff Rich Young Lord was working on for EG, people we're coming to the booth to see "What the hell was THAT song?" for good reason. "So Sorry", Wrong Side of the Bed", "Do Something", and"Sip it" all club approved bangers! I was relived that the night went well for us (the M Report x Dirty Debutante) and them. Breaking new artist in the age of internet leaks can be HARD! Remember we're back with yet ANOTHER release party this coming Tues. (Aug. 11th) for breakout artist ESSO. Paying tribute to the 30th anniversary of MJ's "Off the Wall" album! Aspen is on W. 22nd St. betwn 5th & 6th btw. from 6pm-1am. Also peep the video below of my first meeting with Aspen and how "Word To Everything I Love!" came to be (thanks to Soul Purpose Media). One!
