I you KNOW me or you've been following the blog, you should know that I'm an avid collector of original samples! You can sorta say it's my hobby. So now being that Watch The Throne is tearing up the airwaves I thought it would be only right if I dug deep to uncover some of that albums samples. So here's just a start of some I came across I hope you dig as much as I do.
Just yesterday I posted a sarcastic rant about how these two cats had fans holding there breath waiting in vain like (Bob) Marley for them to drop SOMETHING sonically from their highly anticipated collabo release "Watch The Throne" (not to be confused with "Game of Thrones" on HBO). And low and behold I hear this track "OTIS" (produced by K.West) that has them going back and forth lyrically like an Olympic level ping pong match...Chinese players of course! Listening to it I can't help but think of that Kanye line from "Touch The Sky" where Ye says "Jay's favorite line: Dog, in due time. Now he look at me, like, Damn dog, you where I am!" And look he's made a whole album rapping along side his idol! Now THAT'S a MF'ing come up If I saw one, right?!? BTW peep the screaming at the end of the song, I'd sware it's Kanye SO excited that this is FINALLY happening! LOL
After some (not so extensive) research, I successfully tracked down two of the original sampled songs Mr. West has tapped into for this latest 5 star reviewed album "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" The songs "Devil In A New Dress" and "Lost In The World" are in my top five cuts and I wanted to share with you the sources that he (and his production entourage) got'em from. Enjoy!
I had so much fun with the Shyne one yesterday I decided to go head & post this one too. Now don't be fooled, Mrs. Hova (Beyonce') is not a stranger to loops my friend. Though her's are a lil more clever and off the beaten path of break beats, at the end of the day they STILL are samples none the less. I've taken the time to post some good examples of just what I'm referring to. Most are old soul samples, but the originals are just as hot as the records she's made them into.
Now even though I haven't done a posting in this category in a minute, doesn't mean I haven't been posting up samples from time to time. But being that this guy (former Bad Boy artist turned gun man) Shyne) has been in the news a lot lately, I thought what BETTER time to post this than now! Will he rap again? Is he staying in the states? I don't remember, what song he made again? Why didn't Diddy come visit more? Are ALL questions being floated around the "water cooler!" Me? I'm about the music. I say eff the controversy, I just wanna hear GOOD music from the kid. Well in the meantime here's a "refresher" on the hit he had AND the song he lifted it from made by club icon/nightclubber Grace Jones. Get reacquainted all over again with both.
It's starting to look is if America is going to "bail in a hand basket." Decades ago Billy Paul warned the public that the currency has to be fair distributed among the people to keep the economy flowing. But did the "White" House listen? NO! Then to make matters even worse both Dilla (vocals by Steve Spacek) AND Young Jezzy put the same message out years later only to fall on "def" ears. So now today we stand (or fall rather I should say) on the brink of financial disaster, looking for a way out this mess. Middle fingers up, "Go to Bail Washington!" Let dem dollars circulate!
Wanna hear a funny story? Well a while ago a former flame of mine decided (for herself) that she wanted to "spice things up" in the bedroom department and took on the task of taking Belly Dancing lessons. (SWEET!) Of course, as you may well have guessed, I was in FULL support of this new venture. So now, by lesson two she's been instructed to practice at home with the aid of music on the recommended CD "The Best of Belly Dancing." Half way through her "act" I hear the 1st striking chords of Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin," and I start to lose it! Kudos Timbaland, kudos. The way he first came across this sample may not have been as exciting as mine, but he scored even bigger points for making it one of Hip Hop's biggest hits. Sheesh, even the video got props when it debuted. With the infamous Dame Dash champaign pouring scene, the now late Pimp C, and it even featured a fresh-to-the-scene Gloria Velez in all-white slo-mo glory. One of Hype Williams' best. Now whenever I hear "Big Pimpin" I can't help but to picture her belly dancing to it. Pimp on pimpin'!
BOY, talk about kindred spirits! Both artist, Screamin' Jay Hawkins and Biggie held the title of "Most Likely to Intimidate By Appearance Alone"
There is nothing like a good "city pride" song. Especially when the song is so hot that a whole 'nother coast is claiming the state even in a time of war (West coast V.S. East coast)

EVERYTHING has an original source.
