"Ka-F**kin' Boom Baby!" -Black Dynamite Gets 'Tooned On August 8th, Can Ya Dig It?

Yo did you ever get a chance to peep this flick Black Dynamite? I'm not into comedies (I usually see the joke coming) but something about it being a parody of those '70 flicks peaked my interest. And I must say it ROCKED man! Funny how just the other day @pleasedontstare, @djtraumanyc, @myounglao, and myself (@theMreporter) were all going back and forth on Twitter, with memorable lines from this joint, and now I'm hearing that they're making this into CARTOON!!! I KNOW this definitely is NOT coming on early Saturday mornings! LMAO! I beg of you, go rent...f**k that, go BUY the DVD it's truly an underground classic!

"The Swan That Laid The Golden Globe Egg" -Black Swan Review

Have you seen this movie YET? Trust me if you have then you'd be talking about it too! Be it Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler, WHATEVA! This is the type of cinema experience that I'm glad to plop down money for and STILL get the DVD! YES, it was just that good. Not to give away too too much, but the story/plot follows "Nina" (Natalie Portman) as a "dancer in waiting" in a ballet troupe that's eager for "the come up" in the wake of the shows aging star exiting the production early, due to a forced retirement. Portman does some of her best acting yet (since her debut turn in "the Professional") as a insecure, sheltered young dancer living with an overbearing mother. That turns to purging and paranoia to cope with the pressures of maintaining the image of a twin role in a production of "Swan Lake". Fighting off sexual advances from the head stage director, her understudy, and accusations of sleeping to get the job from the former lead and EVERYONE else, her mind spirals down a rabbit hole of delusions and the film's director takes us (the audience) right down with her! Brilliantly! Usually I'm always sitting in the dark waiting to see if the ending I predicted was right. Not THIS time, with this film, I was LITERALLY in the dark! I wasn't sure WHAT was going on! And I mean that in a GOOD way! Every 5 minutes I was like WTH, WTF, SMH, and even LOL. seriously other than "Let Me In" this was my surprise hit of the year film wise for me. Well written, well acted, and well directed. Best sexual thriller since ummm...well since "Eyes Wide Shut" I will say. "Swan" has feathers but it's NO light-weight! Fly to see this film! "I'll Be Wack" & "The Devil Made Me Do It" -Terminator Salvation + Angels & Demons Movie Reviews

Last week I got the chance to take in TWO movies that was suppose to kick off the Summer blockbuster run, but it's looking like a false start to me with these two I gotta tell you. I'll explain why, starting with Terminator Salvation first. To me the movie never developed the intensity that the first two did by having a central villain in the film. Two heros and not one single "bad ass" in a world FULL of terminators? Give me at least one programmed to find John Conner of present day and kill him right? You sent one to the past damn it! Kill the son of a bitch NOW man! True be told, that other character dude from the past was WAY more interesting to watch on scene (no homo) than ya boy Christian (I like to go off on the on-set help) Bale! Not to spoil things but ummm...Common's in it too, stink up the joint like his last album. It hurt to watch him fail twice in one year. His worst line after hearing that "the Resistance" was going to blow up a Skynet base full of survivors was "HUH?" Brillant writing fellas. Plus through all the chaos, and day to day combat going on, he must've still found time to get a fresh cut and beard shape up from time to time I'm guessing. The writing was on the (poster) wall, it says Bale (Bail). And that's what I should have done... "Bale'd!"

Now on to Angels & Demons, which wasn't that much better. Might you the whole story plot is suppose to happen with a time span on 24hrs. It works for head-butting Keifer but not so much for Tom (Hanks) here. Especially after a last minute flight to Rome, I'd think he'd be jet lagged. Somehow he gets partnered up w/an attractive female AGAIN(?), who's not only a scientist but can read ancient Latin, and like to deface rare, out of print, only one copy left books. Which by the way struck me as odd that NO cameras in that highly guarded, heavily watched area, caught on tape...what? And NO consequences came from that? I'm an atheist when it comes to believing that would happen! And can we talk about the last min. bomb rescue/parachute escape? Explain to me how Ewan only gets effed up on way down, but an explosion that floored the whole Vatican city left the closest person to the blast untouched? A "Big Bang" proportion type at that! A big BOO on that one! I say he deserves to run the Vatican after surviving the self branding and the near fatal sky dive, it shows that he's committed to his causes no matter how zany. The only sin committed here, was paying to see this before it comes out on DVD.

"Gotham City for the Ghetto"-Dark Knight Genius Marketing

Okay I'm Batman jocking , but you GOTTA admit this is a dope concept to market the movie. It's a straight to DVD anime movie (Gotham Knight) to bridge the two movies together. Not that that hasn't been done before. It's just feels good when it's done RIGHT!

"My Man..." -American Gangster on DVD

No this is not a late posting, I'm announcing the release of the movie studio's version, not the bootleg you already own (lol). I'm referring to the one that the Oscar Academy has overlooked to nominate Denzel (and Russell) this year to be Best Actor, or even Best Film (props to Ruby Dee though, for oldest nominated Best Supporting Actress, 'bout time). Some folks I spoke to about the film were a bit disappointed by the over all story and portrayal of Frank Lucas' character. I feel that they went into the theater expecting to see "African-American" Gangster, an anti-hero to replace years of idolizing Cuban immigrant turn drug-lord Tony Montana (Scarface). But instead got "the business thug" perspective on the silver screen. Well I say to them "Boo F'ing Hoo!" Me, personally I dug the refreshing change from the expected scenes of violence usually associated with this genre. It was one of Denzel's better acted roles in a minute. I'm pretty sure the DVD will be released with a two-disc collectors version with all the bells and whistles that fans like in their special features.

"And the Winner Is..."-the Great Debaters review

Yes I know, I'm late on this. Why didn't I see this sooner? It's just for me, if I don't get around to seeing a movie within the 1st two weeks of release I figure I'll purchase it once the DVD is released.
But after hearing so much positive testimony from so many different people (my mom included), I began to feel like it was a moral disservice if I didn't see this film. (which by the way is). It's that good. I couldn't help but think, what better way to spend Dr. King's B-day/
Holiday than by viewing an inspirational film that deals with racial indifferences. It was refreshing to see a Black film make it to the screen with two strong male leads,and a great supporting cast of young fresh faced actors that wasn't based on a dance off contest. Or 24hrs. around somebody's hood (sorry Cube).
Debaters worked for me on a lot of levels. To begin with, each frame could have easily been made into a still and hung in a Downtown gallery. Secondly, I wouldn't be surprised if the wardrobe became the inspiration for some designer next season (hint:Bow ties are in). Then lastly none of the typically stereotypes were placed in a film based on Southern blacks. Such as the overplayed drawl, and drastically
poor trappings, we're so use to seeing in these types of period pieces. All except for the "wayward bad-boy" type character the Great Debaters escapes those pitfalls that plague other films. The Oscars are being announced today, I would be shocked if this film's name didn't show up in ANY of the categories. Don't debate seeing this film.

"The Other NY Giant(s)" -Cloverfield Review

After all the on-line hype, the countless trailers and the 30 some odd TV spots every other minute,
I honestly was excepting to walk into a disaster... literally. Nothing these days usually lives up to the hype. You know what I'm talking about...
Spiderman 3, Superman, the last Matrix, shall I go on? But for some reason this felt different, new even.

To call it "Blair Witch meets Godzilla" would not do it justice. There's a little bit more to it, and that something is
humor. Yep, besides the raw emotion of genuine fear, a good laugh of two are thrown in at the characters expense. The "party scenes" that you've seen in the trailer are just used as a plot set up for back story purposes, and for you the viewer, to even care about the folks involved. At one point I got so into the dialogue, I had forgotten that the action hadn't even started yet (lol)! But once it does start, it's good money.
My only true beef with the movie was, there was not a lot
of emotional investment felt from the characters. Real talk,
it would've been WAY more "WTFs" and "Oh S#its! " And one good,
"Dude, you're bugging the eff out right now, & it's not cool!"
If you ask me. All and all, I enjoyed the movie and would recommend it...on DVD. Just kidding. (wink)
