"Hot Bowl Coming Through!" -Brooklyn Bowl Is Cooking!

How long have I been sleeping? Cause I heard not a peep about these HOT featured acts that stopped through to Brooklyn Bowl! You would think after the Block Association smashed over there for "Rock & Bowl" that we would be called first thing to be invited out! But NO! We're still getting wind of things at the VERY last minute like the rest of you common folks! LOL! Anyways, I guess we both missed the N*E*R*D show and the John Legend w/ the Roots thing (last night), catching a DJ set (?) w/ Solange' is still an option. I think I'll pass on that one. It's TONIGHT by the way admission is 10 beans.

"F**k Bueller, I Need A Day Off Too!" -Leaning To Rediscover NYC For A Day

Feeling overworked and stressed out (at least that's what I told my job) I felt the NEED to do some exploring 'round this Gotham city of ours to re-familiarize myself with what this town has to offer. Adding to the fact that Summer was packing it's bags to bounce AND I had just treated myself to a NEW camera (Canon sx200) for my B'day, I thought to myself "What better time than now, right self?" After a quick morning stretch (to grab the remote lol) I headed out to feed my face with a NICE hearty cheeseburger deluxe at a local eatery and was revitalized and "ready to go right now!" like John Legend & Andre' 3000 to hit the streets. First stop...the Central Park Zoo. What? You got a problem with that? I hadn't been in YEARS (!), so what the hay! Why not hmmm? Now the Cntrl Pk Zoo was alright, but NOT what I was hoping for. Yeah you can get pretty close to the animals, but WHAT animals! No tiger, lions, gorillas, oh my! You'd find more animals in a box of animal crackers then in this joint! Whizzy wack! Then they had the nerve to have a Hobbit tree and that damn creepy spider (Shelob from "Lord of the Rings") in the KIDS zoo! Huh? And wait...a RABBIT? You serious!?! May as well throw some gerbils up in that piece too man! Best thing in there was those two old musicians jamming, and that was FREE! WARNING: Ladies don't go get your hair did, and walk up in the rain forest room, thinking you coming back out looking fly. HELL NAH! As the Jamaican say "Perm dun off!" Smelling type funky! I'm done. Took the Water Taxi ($5 down by South St. Ferry) back to BK, and hopped the turnstile (joking) to take the F train to Coney Island. Which is where the NY Aquarium is located at. Now that's ANOTHER spot I haven't been out to since a damn grade school class trip! Tix were $13 & $17 per person. If I'm paying $17 It better come with some damn swimming trunks, cause ya boy is getting in that bitch! SPLASH! Man, it was type muggy in that joint! And packed surprisingly too! It took me a minute to get my camera settings just right, then it was ON. Let me tell you my friend, THAT was better than the zoo if you ask me (wait...are you asking me?). WAY much more stuff to "ohhh & ahhh" at. However at one point, my camera died on me. So luckily I find an outlet to charge the battery back up, thinking "I paid for this, I'm bringing SOMETHING back home with me!" Walked away thinking it was well hidden, only to be "Jack Spade'd" by someone with octopus hands! I was pissed off and puffed up like one of those fish, till I remembered I had a double back at the crib. Yet I was pissed! Regardless of that, I would love to come back again really soon, to set up a sting to catch that MF'er...in a fish net at that (just joking). It was a cool day off spent, but a felt kinda guilty craving catfish & grits when I left. Nah, maybe some grilled salmon & calamarie at SEA! Next trip is the REAL zoo in the Bronx! No offense to the Bronx. LOL.

"Food for the Soul" -Sunday Brunch Anyone?

Question, you ever had brunch w/ Common, Kanye, the Roots, D'angelo, Anthony Hamilton, and the likes? Well word around the campfire is that the Stylistics Agency and some other choice NYC taste-makers are working on just that! Picture eating a well cooked brunch by a top star chef, while being entertained by a DJ spinning the latest Saadiq, Badu, Legend, etc. CD, or even an ol' fav like Lauren's first. Maybe even a live trio serenading you w/ cover tunes by Chaka or Stevie. Even watch a live painter complete a single work of art, before you even finish your 3rd Mimosa!?! How about seeing 20 mins of a highly buzzed about movie soon to be in theaters. If this sounds like a solid idea to you PLEASE let us know:
Via comment or e-mail; theMreport@gmail.com
So we can fast-track it to reality. Winter's coming, don't be left in the "cold" looking for somewhere to "chill." Sun. Sept 28th we're looking to debut. You down?

"BK Shows PDA For JL" -John Legend at Wingate Park

Okay...Surprise! Surprise! Word around the "colored folks water cooler" is that the (John) Legend himself is the big mystery (?) guest appearing at Wingate Park's live music concert series tonight. The other rumored guest to appear is the other John, as in Mayer which would be a first for both. Either way, I strongly suggest that you come EARLY, w/ a comfy blanket on hand. Some sorta of beverage to avoid dehydration, and some really good binoculars. Shows usual start at 7pm so be out there by 5 (lol)!

"American Boy Crazy" -Estelle Performs @ Highland Ballroom

The British are coming...again! Seems like if it's not some UK actor taking home an award of recognition, it's some English singer getting all the kudos. Add singer Estelle to that list, her single "American Boy" with guest verses from formly-engaged Kanye, is tearing up the air waves and dance floors. Tonight, she'll be hitting the stage at the Highland Ballroom, and there's no telling who might make a guest appearence. You just plan on making yours.

"You're A Star, You Just Don't Know It Yet!" - Sunday Night Live/ the Cool Kids, Mickey Factz

Okay, somebody tell me. Is there some sorta "Rap Renaissance" going on in the Chi that I didn't hear about? Lupe, Common, Kanye, John Legend, all are pulling to get Chicago reinstated in "the Windy City...and spits too!" Now here comes these new "kids" on the Chicago block, the Cool Kids. Never heard of 'em? Then maybe you're just not as cool as you thought you were, huh? Well FYI, they cats tore it up at the American Museum of Natural History and made way for a Kanye appearance, that left the crowd speechless. I say all this cause, Sunday night at S.O.B.'s, you can see first hand what all the hub bub is all about.

"Gram Crackers" -the Grammy Show review

Normally I don't make it my business to be home on the night
the Grammy Awards
air, but this year quite a few artist that I follow where scheduled to appear and perform on the program. Then word got around that the Time (one of my all-time favorite groups) were to reunite on the show. So that pretty much sealed it for me to tune in last night. And I gotta say man, Best...Show...Ever! They pulled out all the stops for their 50th Anniversary, and it paid off. Great music equals a great show, bottom line. Aretha, Alicia, Beyonce', the Beatles, Daft Punk, Frank Sinatra, the Foo Fighters, Kanye, John Legend, John Meyer, Tina, Rihanna...I could go on but you pretty much get the point.
Oh you gonna start playing the music on me huh?!?
Well finally you recognize the blog that should be the winner, that's reward enough. Good night!
